Growing up on a boat you could say Sam Goodchild was born to sail; and he credits this unusual upbringing for the notably instinctive way he handles a boat He returned to Britain as a teenager, this competitive element kicked in.
In 2006 he was selected as the youngest member of the British Keelboat Academy, resulting in his 1st Transatlantic with Alex Thompson (2nd, Vendee Globe 2016/17), and this was followed by selection for the renowned Artemis Offshore Academy in 2010. Here he was introduced to the extremely competitive one-design Figaro circuit in France; a series that has launched countless prestigious careers and still sees the occasional return of sailing legends such as double Vendee Globe winner Michel Desjoyeaux.
In the last 3 years Sam has broken countless offshore records with the MOD70 Phaedo and is now part of the elite Spindrift Racing Team. A credit to his adaptability, he goes head to head with America's Cup hopefuls in the World Match Racing Tour as well as crew on the fastest sailing trimaran ever built, Spindrift 2. It's with this team, and this boat, that Sam currently prepares for his greatest challenge yet, an attempt at the Jules Verne Trophy.
